John D. Rockefeller once said, “Don’t be afraid to give up the good to go for the great”. We’ve pretty much lived by that philosophy for almost 25 years now. In fact, it’s inspiring us in 2019 to clear the slate and write a new story.
As many of you know, we’ve been rolling with these Pop-up SHOPS for a few years now, and as it turns out these specialty events are suddenly becoming the latest buzz word on how we want to buy for our homes and more.
Change is a’comin … Our handy-dandy fancy marketing guy is telling us that in 2018 consumers were looking for a fresh new way to shop. As a show promoter and shopper myself, I’ve seen firsthand this truth come to light within our industry. Now, forecasters are banking on a new specialty driven shopping trend, called Pop-up SHOPS to re-ignite the retail buyer.
These specialty buying events brought in approximately $10 billion dollars in sales last year across retail brand outlets nationwide. I’ve always believed that seasoned antiques & vintage sellers have an intuition when something is about to change long before the fancy suits catch on. Maybe it’s because we’re the boots on the ground, in the trenches kind of people who know our businesses like the back of our hands.
I believe that’s why trend setting brands like City Farmhouse, Perspective Design Co, Barn House Chicks Market, Tumbleweed & Dandelion, One O Seven Warehouse, and others, have seen the value in these occasional buying events all along. In other words, we’re not chasing the trend, we’re helping create it!
It seems that the suits (forecasters) and the boots (that’s us) all agree that the attraction lies in the curation. These types of shopping venues tend to offer a higher quality of goods for the shopper, an element of surprise, and a more personalized experience. You’ll find Pop-up SHOPS springing up everywhere. From a limited buying event that includes one particular brand, like the City Farmhouse Pop-up SHOPS to two or three brands collaborating together at various locations. You’ll even find vintage Pop-up SHOPS offering their vintage goods within larger brand retailers, like Pottery Barn.
BIG NEWS … it seems that America’s favorite show, the Country Living Fair is wanting to get in on the latest and greatest shopping craze too! We are excited to announce that we will be hosting a City Farmhouse Pop-up SHOP at all three Country Living Fair locations in 2019! Plus, we’re bringing along some of your favorite City Farmhouse Fair vendors, and other outstanding curated sellers to pop-up with us too! You’ll find us all together in Rhinebeck, NY, Columbus, OH, and Stone Mountain (Atlanta), GA! We have some exciting plans for our City Farmhouse Pop-ups at the Fairs, and we can’t wait to share more over the next few months.
EXCITED TO BE A PART OF SOMETHING TOTALLY NEW … I think we all agree that our community is rich with some of the most talented creatives in the world. From inspiring home designers, DIY gurus, savvy green thumb-ers to kings (or queens) of the kitchen, learning from top notch influencers at the Country Living Fairs is another reason it’s been checked off many bucket lists. Except that the bucket list never really gets checked off because you keep coming back show after show. I’m over the moon to share with you as the new Program Director for the Country Living Fairs, it’s now my job to scour the country to bring some of your favorites to the Main and Kitchen Stages, and hopefully uncover some hidden talent too. I would love to know who you would like to see “Present” at the Country Living Fairs this year. Drop me an email here.
AND BACK HOME … at the City Farmhouse flagship location in Franklin you’ll find us hosting more of these specialty events in 2019. On occasion you can expect to find some of your favorite City Farmhouse Pop-up Fair vendors joining in to sell their vintage wares too. But, that’s not all! We’re headed cross country to Pop-up SHOP & collaborate with brands in California! Interested in collaborating on a Pop-up SHOP in your town? Email us here.
COMING SOON … Stay tuned for the announcement of an exciting PICK & SPLIT Pop-up Market hosted in our community with multiple sellers popping up in a unique setting for a one-day shopping event. We’re working out the details now.
PLUS … Catch us on the road this year exhibiting as vendors at premier shows that have been our favorites for more than 20 years; The Nashville Show (formerly Tailgate-Music Valley), in February, and Marburger Farm in Round Top, Texas in April and October. AND .... we’re taking a look at other long-running shows around the county too, giving all who love us, but never have the opportunity to shop with us, the chance to experience all that City Farmhouse has offered its shoppers since 1994!
GIVING IT OUR ALL … If you know us well, then you know when we do something we’re all in! For this reason, we have decided to step away from the scheduled October 11 – 13, 2019 City Farmhouse Nashville Show and revisit it again in 2020. If it’s God’s plan for us to re-enter the show market, we have faith that we will have the support of our loyal fan base who have supported us since 2012 and through 16 premier shows to come back to a renewed and refreshed shopping experience.
SOME THINGS WON’T CHANGE … The City Farmhouse Pop-up Fair licensed events in Baton Rouge, LA. (February 22 and 23, 2019) & Medina, TN (dates to be announced) will continue as planned and will have the full support of the City Farmhouse brand to maintains its presence as a premier vintage/antique/lifestyle show.
NOTHING EVER STAYS THE SAME … To stay ahead of an ever changing environment we have to accept change. And, it is our responsibility as good stewards to work to make better everything around us. We feel that we can do more good by working to strengthen the industry that we love so much while leading it down the path of something new. We simply can’t grow, if we stay.
It’s all a part of our 2019 goals to lead with a Philanthropist spirit! We hope you’ll follow along on another exciting City Farmhouse adventure!
